Can Divider shift as per traffic pattern?

Slowly slowly we have connected all villages to the cities. Similarly Metropolitan are expanding in such a fast pace that all surrounding villages are now part of the metropolitan city. If you want to get more oppurnities to work, you should be in metropolitan city that is general mindset which every one has. So that is the reason, Cities like Mumbai have many people coming from all parts of the India.

But these create lots of traffic hurdles, its jamming which is time consuming and a kind of headache which you can’t avoid. But, Infrastructure is not supportive to this growing population of metropolitan. It consumes lot of time while traveling between the sub-urban.

Few days back, when I was travelling between the sub-urban, I was in the auto rickshaw and seeing that one side of the road had lot of traffic and other side of the road had hardly any traffic. So there is traffic pattern take place as per the timing.

I was thinking that if the divider (on the road) can shift as per the timing or as per the traffic pattern then we can add one more lane on the side where traffic is more. So divider can divide the road into 3:1 rather then only in just 2:2.

But in reality its difficult to implement such kind of infrastructure.. Isn't It?....

Sahi idea hai.
It is also primitively implemented during festivals. When these is too much traffic jam due to festival processions on one side, the other side is opened to both ways traffic by keeping traffic police to organize it.

But then how can we do it in regular life?

Should the divider move? Then what happens to the cars driving in lane near to divider when its moving?

Maybe gates connecting a lane to one side traffc should open at one time and that connecting too other side traffic should open at other time!

But that would mean there are dividers on either side of that lane dividing it from both the other lanes.

Not exactly matching your super sleek vision of divider shifting an road broadening eh!

thanks.. :)

We don't have to shift the divider so frequently..or in real time.. that will create lots of traffic mess...

We can analyze the situation and open one of the lane(the lane which is on the opposite side) in the direction where traffic is high.. its kind of logical shift.. which can solve our purpose for atleast time being.. :)

Also, this divider shifting is possible through automation but require lots of intelligence in the infrastructure.....
