Languages are on the verge of Extinction...!!!

English is very important for communication, but lets not neglect the below facts.

“At least 3000 languages out of more than 6000 in the world are on the verge of disappearance. It is predicted by the year 2050, 90 percent of human languages will disappear from the earth”.

Mostly we all are moving towards international languages because of our work, Internet and Globalization which is happening. We shouldn’t stop communicating or using our native or regional languages. They are the identity of our culture heritage and customs.

Another fact is “UN has registered more then 6000 languages but half of them are spoken by only 10,000 persons and one fourth of them spoken by 1,000 persons. Our India (which has great linguistic diversity) is at the top in the list of countries having maximum number of dialects on the verge of extinctions. UNESCO has listed 196 languages of India as endangered.”

Thinking about other countries (Japan, China) that they force their people to develop everything and make available everything in their own languages, India should take some stand like this.

Many species are getting extinct because of global warming, but languages are on the verge extinction because of globalisation something new which I come to know today.

Source for the facts mentioned above are from “Times of India”

I believe that a supression on people regarding languages would be the height of unconstitutionality, no-freedom, and an abused democracy.
Mulayam Singh is a shit-face.

China is called an iron fist in a velvet glove.

Languages that are flourishing today, have had every reason to flourish. Our languages did not because they didn't. We must inspire people by showing them the richness of this text, and believe me or not, this 'ours' tendency is the one that has resulted in a less scientific script(as in english) flourishing more than a more scientific one(devnagari as in hindi).

But the whole point of democracy is that the people do what they realise. Forcing others lies at the root of all evil. However, I do think that its a duty of our government to inspire the common man(NOT force) and to bring out the better aspects of hindi to the whole world, so as to inspire the more powerful sections of society.

@Ayushi: Welcome to my blogs..

Agree that while inspiring the people we shouldn't break the law of democracy.

But as i have observed many times, as people are working in multinationals and moving towards metro cities, they stop conversation in their native language and after sometime they even forget reading and writing in their own language. Its actually become a matter of status and showing a richness that you have to converse in some International language only.

We can't force them but if all the basic necessity is available in "Hindi or some other language" than may be some taste of sweet will still stay on your tongue eventhough you have swallow the sweet.

Also, isn't it ironical that we are discussing in some international language for "spreading awareness about the use of local and regional language" :) :).. just kiddin...

That is because oppurtunities are available in those foreign languages, which in itself is just a show of love of others for 'their' language and not the best of the lot.
If people wish to adopt other languages, we shouldn't have a problem with that.
But instead, we should change the wishes of the people(everyone, not just regionally bound) by showing them how rationally superior the devnagari script is(I hold this view only for the devnagri scrip, NOT Hindi). Not by using words like 'native' 'ours' or 'yours' .
Thats what I mean by evolution of languages, and this 'our' comes as a hurdle in evolving for our better existence.

BTW, Basic necessities provided by the govt. ARE available in the 16 recognised languages as per majority. Tring to influence or force the expression of any other private/individual body is strongly undemocratic.

I don't think it is ironical at all for me to be conversing in English, because I am not as inspired to type in Hindi.

It's natural, when one thing evolves, its counterpart grows redundant. If you don't want it to grow redundant, you can start by inspiring others for whatever reasons. See if it helps :)

I feel language of love is the language which should never be made to go extinct. We have seen people who speak the same language devastate each other. Only if we are made to keep the language of LOVE alive will we as human beings be able to save our race

Prabs: Welcome to my blog.

Yes, your point is very correct. Languages are differing from region to region but one language which make us unite is the language of LOVE.

If everyone knows that then no one has to learn many different languages.
